king of the castle

I've always wanted to get Moe cat furniture of some sort, but those carpet covered pieces of plywood sure are expensive! Today I was at the cat market getting Moe's food, and a lady who worked there said, "Hey, would you be interested in some marked down cat furniture?". My response was, "Just how marked down are we talking about?"
How about a $89.00 cat tree thingie for only $18.00! Whoo! So Moe now has furniture he can call his own. Of course the nice coat of Moe-hair covering all of our regular furniture just shows that it's all his. Anyway.
At first, he was a bit apprehensive about the new furniture. He wouldn't sit on it, only on a chair that we moved near it.

apprehension

Then he tried ignoring it.

Then, after about a half hour of sitting near it, he suddenly jumped in it!

Yay! Look how damn cute he is! I know his cat-like lack of expression is hard to read, but he was purring up a storm. He was very proud of himself.

two posts in one night! whoo!

Aww! I just wanted to share with you the cutest picture I've ever seen...

....followed by the creepiest picture I've ever seen.

*shudder* Goddamn. My two least favorite things ever: Clowns and McDonald's. Someone hold me.

they said it was a weather balloon...

We have yet to figure out just what the hell was going on early Monday morning. We awoke at 3:45 AM (!) to the loud thumping sound of a low-flying helicopter, and various lights shining around our window. Ken lept out of bed to check things out, while I rubbed my eyes and asked if we were being invaded. I eventually put my clothes on and stood outside to watch the noisy-ass helicopter hover over our house....just our house... for a good hour or so. Two houses down were two cop cars, but I couldn't tell what they were doing. Eventually the helicopter moved on. Hmm. I smell a conspiracy. Or maybe just a basement meth lab down the street.
In other news, I am in love with my newest garage sale find. I bought a like-new rice cooker for four bucks. This thing kicks so much ass. It has a steamer basket for veggies on top, while the rice cooks on the bottom. Tonight while the rice was cooking, I tossed in some zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, and kale- and in ten minutes we had a whole meal! Whoo! It's easy to clean, too. I think I will sleep with it tonight, I love it so much. We might need a bigger bed though, since I already sleep with my sweet husband, our cat Moe, and my other favorite kitchen appliance.
What else? Eh, I'm liking my job less and less as the days go by. But I know my days are numbered there, so I need to make the best of it, I suppose. I just have to figure out how to stay awake while I'm there. Whatever. It's paying my car payment, so that's good.
I have a million things to do, so I better get to it.

my boy.

Moe is such a pretty boy.

pensive moe

He got a new brush today, which he loves. He also got some catnip-scented bubbles, which he has absolutely zero interest in. Ah, the life of a cat.

one step closer to our own personal oasis

So this year we decided to spend our tax return money on house-related stuff. But our house is old, and needs lots of...stuff done to it. After kicking around the idea of getting our nasty carpet ripped up and replaced with hardwoods, we finally decided that our monster of a backyard could no longer be ignored. It was an embarrassing mess of weeds and overgrowth. Really, I think we had monkeys back there it was so rainforesty.
We shelled out a bunch of money and had the yard completely cleared out, and new grass seed planted. It looks so good now, I can hardly wait until the grass actually grows! Here's what it looked like before:

And now, with straw down over the seed:

Another part of the yard before:

And after:

Now all we have to do is get a fence put up to block the redneckery coming from the left side. After that, then we will be in business. Those little bushes they planted are azaleas. We have tons of room to plant more stuff when we can, so that's cool.
....man, if only we had the money to do the front yard now. It's always like that, isn't it? Once you see the potential in your house, then you want to fix her all up real nice-like.
