My horoscope today:
"How are you coming with that big personal goal of yours? Chances are, you've forgotten about it ... or placed it on the back burner while you deal with the pressing matters of day-to-day living. Today, you need to pull yourself out of your normal routine -- switch off your autopilot and put some hard work into this goal! If you don't start today, when will you start? It's time to stop accepting things for what they are -- believe that you can make a change, because you can!"
It's right, you know. I've been virtually ignoring the whole "prepare for college" thing because I've been caught up in other life stressors. I'm taking my placement test on Monday, and I'm not prepared at all. I may surprise myself, who knows. I'm going to drive to the campus tomorrow and try to find the building where the test is, so I won't be as rushed and stressed on Monday. But that won't help me learn algebra. That's okay though, I suppose. At least doing poorly on the math section will insure that I get placed in a class that I can handle. Maybe.
Then I need to finish my portfolio. Don't get me started on that one.

fat and tired.

We had Double Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce from Vegan With a Vengeance last night.
Yeah, it's been that kind of week.

not much to say today.
I'm feeling mostly better, although not 100%. I'm still really tired, and a little dizzy for some reason. My job didn't fire me yet. Maybe it was the doctor's note. I kind of wish they would have, but then I would have to find some other way to pay my bills. Sell my eggs, turn tricks, or somethin'.
Miles is getting so big! He has the honor of being neutered in two weeks. I'm sure he's very excited. I need to take some new pictures of him. He looks just like Moe did at his age.
*sigh*

bugs
Disgusting. Oh, what people won't do for money.
I'm sick with a stomach virus. Last night sucked something awful. I was so dehydrated today that I almost fell when I stepped up to the table at the doctor's office. I promised her that I wasn't drunk. I got a doctor's note, but I may get fired anyway because apparently no one is supposed to get sick during the busy season. I'm sure they love the fact that I will be out tomorrow as well, doc's orders.

SHAC 7
The Shac 7 were sentenced yesterday and today. I'm completely disgusted, but not really suprised that these six activists are going to jail for many years because they encouraged others to contact Huntington Life Sciences employees and ask them to stop participating in cruel animal testing. Never did they suggest that anyone act violently on these people, and they never acted violently themselves. Free speech? Not in this country, pal. Not if it gets in the way of corporate money and majority opinion.
I'm very sad, and pretty frightened by the whole thing. The squeaky wheel doesn't get the grease anymore, it gets up to 72 months in the pen.
Fuck the Federal Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. Terrorism?! Sending black faxes so a fax machine will run out of toner? Yeah, that sounds just like terrorism to me.
Be afraid.

anyone? damnit.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a work-at-home job? Something that doesn't involve multi level schemes or phone sex?
....I'm desperate, but not that desperate. Besides, my voice isn't well suited for phone sex.

happy birthday baby
Today is Ken's 34th birthday!

We've had a busy weekend full of eating. Saturday was family birthday fun, ravioli, and the vegan chocolate cake (above) that Ken's sister picked up from Whole Foods. Good stuff. It was a nice day, overall.
Yesterday we went to a dinner party featuring The Traveling Chef, Joshua Ploeg. Holy fuck, what good food that was. For a $10 donation, we got served a five course vegan meal. I don't even know exactly what all I ate, I just kept putting everything in my mouth that was handed to me. There must have been thirty people crammed into this hot little house, but it was quite the gustatory adventure. There were mushroom/pepper turnover puff type thingies (and pesto sauce), a salad with richly marinated artichoke hearts, soup with collard greens, "sausage" and "ham", the main course was a blur..it involved phyllo dough layers with stuff and green beans, I think. Then dessert was a fruit parfait with chocolate shreds and a cinnamon sauce. Unbelievable.
After we came home last night, I started on Ken's birthday cheesecake. It turned out great, but the sides stuck to the springform (despite my spraying them with oil), so the cake doesn't look pretty enough for me to show you a picture. Oh well. Ken liked his presents, so hopefully that makes up for a weird looking cake.
