move along, summer. nothing to see here.

First, here's Moe in his favorite begging chair. Coincidentally, it's right next to my chair at the dinner table.

I've made a few tasty things this past week, my favorite being a vegan cheeseburger pizza:
vegan cheeseburger pizza

The picture kinda looks like a big ol' pile of shit, but I assure you that it was not. It was crazy delicious. I first heard of this concoction in La Dolce Vegan, but I didn't exactly follow that recipe. It's pretty close, though. Here's what it is:
Regular pizza dough.
The sauce is plain tomato sauce mixed half & half with ketchup. (Yes, ketchup. Think cheeseburger, not pizza.)
Topped with shredded Vegan Gourmet Monterey Jack (should have been cheddar, but it's what I had).
Pickles!
Mustard!
Tomatoes!
Vegan ground "beef", pre browned.
Baked to a yummy perfection.

I really missed onions on this, though. I had two big onions ready in the vegetable bowl, and they were both rotten in the middle. Bah!! Onions and garlic make it into almost everything we eat besides sweet stuff, so my lack of onions has been hard to get used to. But anyway, this was one good cheeseburger pizza. Next time I will be sure to have some shredded lettuce on hand to top it with after baking.

Next up is Susan's Peach Upside Down Cake that everyone has been making lately.

As you can see, mine is shown still in the pan. This is because I didn't know that my cast iron pan was too big for the recipe, so I didn't have enough batter to completely cover the topping. But I baked it anyway, and scooped it out cobbler-style. We had it with vanilla non-dairy ice cream, of course. This was a very pleasant cake considering it didn't have chocolate or (much) fat in it. I probably won't make it again because peeling peaches sucks so very, very much. Lolo made it look so easy. Ha. My peaches were evil peaches. They put up a good fight.

And another round of french toast:
more french toast
Yeah, we have french toast a lot. But it's a good way to get rid of stale bread, or in this case crappy bread. We bought a different brand of bread that we hated, but it was fine as french toast. Which once again proves my theory that anything can taste good when battered and fried. And look at those berries! That's the only reason why I tolerate summer, for the berries. Otherwise summer can move along anytime now.

two things I like right now.

These crackers are so good, I can't keep my hands off 'em. They're the vegan version of Goldfish crackers or Cheezits. Crazy!!

And my SHAC7 shirt arrived yesterday. I love it!

I'm trying to lay off the baked goods now though, as the American Apparel "Classic Girl" Extra Large is too snug for me, which is insane. I mean, my boobs are big and boobified for sure, but it has not been a problem with the XL before. Damn you American Apparel and your waif girl sizes. Oh, and YIKES!

weird scones and other whatnot.

Moe is plotting something here, although I'm not sure what:

Moe is up to something.

So, I've made several variations of the basic scone recipe from VWAV on many occasion, and they always turn out great. But after making a half batch then freezing the remaining dough of some chocolate chip scones, I've run into a problem. The original batch was perfect, but the batch I made from dough that had been frozen then thawed turned out shitty. What's up with that? I thought all dough could be frozen? Does it depend on the kind of dough or what? I dunno, but this is the bad batch. Crappy texture, kind of like pizza dough and just plain weird:

But I made up for them by making a chocolate cake.

chocolate cake w/cocoa frosting

I used up my chocolate chips in the scones, so I used a chocolate cake recipe that called for cocoa as it's only chocolate source. This recipe is from La Dolce Vegan, called Wolffie's Cocoa cake, or something like that. It tasted a lot like a cake from a boxed cake mix, which certainly isn't a bad thing. I wanted a chocolate frosting, but again, with only cocoa on hand, I had to do what I could. The frosting is a basic "buttercream" type, with cocoa powder mixed in. It wasn't getting chocolaty enough, so I squeezed in some chocolate sauce too. It was tasty, but as mild of a chocolate taste as it looks.

Miles was underfoot (as always) when I spilled some powdered sugar. He got all sugary.

Miles got sugared

Proving that I do occasionally eat food other than sweets, I made a vegan seafood salad this week that was really good.

God, my pictures suck. I wish I had a real camera. One day.
Anyway, I used some fake "shrimp", which I unfroze by boiling them. I chopped them into lil' pieces, and mixed them with vegenaise, lime juice, red pepper flakes, dried dulse, minced garlic, salt, and chopped romaine lettuce. Served cold. Soooo good. I just haven't been in the mood for hot food lately, since it's been over 100F here. I fucking hate summer.

the daves I know.

A guy came into the store yesterday that looks a lot like Dave Foley from Kids in the Hall. Now I can't get this song out of my head:
