VeganMoFo: any common vegan foods you have yet to try?

grit

Have you ever heard of a vegetarian restaurant called The Grit? Well, it's a pretty popular place for vegans and vegetarians in Atlanta and Athens. In fact, if you mention to any ATL vegan that you are making a trip to Athens, the most common response is, "Ohh.. The Grit! Golden Bowl!"

My confession: I don't know what a Golden Bowl is. Because I've never been to The Grit. But tonight, I intend to find out! Because Ken and I are making the hour drive up the highway to Athens for a show tonight, and damnit, we are stopping at The Grit for dinner. I hate being the last to know things!

So here is my question to you VeganMoFoers. What seemingly common vegan food have you not yet tried, and why? Is it eggplant? Quinoa? Nutritional Yeast? And if you name it, then you have to go out and try it. Go!

I hadn't made the Seitan O' Greatness or whatever it's called until this week. I'm a year late on the trend. I hope you had a good dinner at the Grit! I wasn't blown away when I ate there, but maybe I didn't order the best thing.

I did enjoy The Grit! It didn't blow me away or anything, but my food was tasty.

The only okara I've had is in burger patty form. There are some vegan patties called Courage Burgers that you can find in the fridge section of health food stores. They're pretty good!

Let me know how the Grit is. I was scoping it out in prep for my trip to South Carolina/Atlanta in 2009. I like to get psyched up by looking at the food I can eat ;-).

This doesn't really count, but since I'm thinking of the southern part of the east coast.... I love soy boy's okara patties. The ones they sell in Seattle have egg in them, so I can only look, but not eat ;-(.
