fertility diet.

So yeah, Ken and I have been trying to make a baby for quite some time now. I'm doing my best to make my uterus a friendly place that a baby might want to visit for about nine months, but there are still a few things I could do that would help make it happen. For one, I need to clean up my diet. Sure I'm vegan, but I eat sweets like the plane's going down. Every day. And when you eat too many sweets, there's not as much room for more important things like vegetables. So my first step- eat more vegetables. Simple enough, right? Hopefully this could lead to my second step- lose weight. I'm about 50 lbs. overweight, which isn't the best for optimum ovulation. being 35 years old isn't the best for optimum ovulation either, so my third step- get younger.
Wait... what?

Here are some of our most recent veggie-filled meals.

Chard and chickpea soup. Also known as "toss whatever crap you have on hand into the crock pot until it's hot".

Brown rice pasta topped with escarole, tomatoes, white beans and garlic. Bonus, a few simple "pork" basil meatballs made with Match Vegan Pork.

Vegetable casserole, another thrown-together yet delicious meal. Sweet potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes, basil and onions topped with bread crumbs and a sprinkle of Daiya.

Some grilled pineapple salsa, which we used to top tasty soy curl tacos. Taco recipe and salsa recipe both from Vegan Brunch.

Not very vegetabl-y, but very wonderful tomato rosemary scones I made for a vegan potluck last weekend. Another fine recipe from Vegan Brunch. (crappy camera phone alert)

So what do you do when you want something sweet, but just can't have it? Any advice for getting off the white stuff?

Fruit helps a lot...especially dried fruit, for whatever reason. I also like to keep a really good bar of super dark chocolate around...one that's satisfying if you have just two or three squares. Eating just a few pieces means I can also splurge on a fancier bar, bc it lasts so much longer.

I eat a lot of sweets too. No baby interest so I do not worry to much about it. ;)

Beautiful meals and I'm sending good baby-makin' vibes your way. I'm with Becky on the super dark chocolate. Just a little nibble hits the spot.

Yep, dark Chocolate and banana chips work for me.

Good luck on your journey to cleaner eating to produce a baby! lol! I do believe eating really good and less toxins/chemicals has a lot to do with getting your body ready for making a baby. Good for you!

something sweet... um, stevia can sometimes work. But personally I like bananas topped with maple syrup. I guess that's still sugar, but at least it's not refined! and it *definitely* hits the sweet tooth.

oh, and good luck with the futurebaby! ^.^

I too have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now, so my heart (and all my best wishes for success) go out to you. I am totally with you in trying to cut down on the sweets, even though they are vegan, but I know how hard it is to do especially for vegans who like to bake! I've been trying to eat a lot more fruit, especially tropical fruit like pineapple, mango, and papaya. Dried fruit, especially with some nuts or in a trail mix is a great snack too and can be surprisingly satisfying. Good luck...and here's hoping for some vegan babies coming our way!
